GETTING YOUR PROVISIONAL LICENCE

To obtain a provisional UK driving licence, you must be at least 17 years old (or 16 if you receive certain disability benefits), and you’ll need to meet the minimum eyesight requirements. You can apply online via the official GOV.UK website or by filling out the D1 application form available at most post offices. You'll need to provide proof of identity, such as a passport, and pay the £34 fee if applying online (£43 if using the paper form). After your application is processed, you'll receive your provisional licence in the post, typically within a week. Once you have your provisional licence, you can begin learning to drive with a qualified instructor or a full license holder over 21, while also preparing for the theory and practical driving tests.

STARTING YOUR DRIVING JOURNEY

Starting your driving journey is an exciting step toward gaining independence and confidence on the road. The first thing you'll need is a reliable driving instructor who can guide you through the learning process, helping you understand the rules of the road, and develop the skills necessary for safe driving. Begin by booking a few introductory lessons to familiarize yourself with the vehicle and the basic controls. As your instructor I will teach you essential techniques, from proper steering and braking to understanding traffic signs and road markings. It’s also important to practice regularly, develop good driving habits, and stay calm and focused behind the wheel. With patience and dedication, you’ll gradually build your skills and confidence, setting you on the path to passing your driving test and becoming a safe, responsible driver.
